Today's gospel reading (Mt 6:1-6,16-18) reminds me of an episode of Charmed I saw on Star World not so long ago. In the episode, the three sisters (which included Pru at the time) face a demon that "infects" them with one of the seven deadly sins. The only way to break free of the sin is to perform a selfless act. Pru (who's infected with "Pride") is the only one unable to shake off her sin - despite nearly giving up her life at the end of the episode. The reason - pride is the one sin you cannot win against with selflessness (because even that feeds one's pride).

And that's what the Lord spoke about in his sermon today.

For more on this, read Msgr Dennis Clark's homily.
