A while back, I had read this mail sent by a reader of the Hindu Vivek Kendra website (a resource center for Hindutva literature):

Subject: Fw: Christians are not children of God !!

The Editor.
Never become a Christian!
Christians are not children of God!!

Sir:

Even though I had studied in a Christian missionary school, and was taught by many Christian teachers, including Christian priests, I can never accept Christianity as a perfect religion, as their priests wrongly believe it is. From my childhood, I have had Christian friends. I do not understand why many of them just cannot resist the urge to convert all others to Christianity. Hindus do not bother to convert others to the Hindu faith.

Even the great thinkers and highly educated priests among Christians get stumped when they argue with me and unsuccessfully try to convert me. When I tell them confidently that no one among all the Christians of the world shall ever succeed in converting me to Christianity, they state that I must be extremely afraid of hearing their sermons on Christianity and also very scared of listening to their Holy Bible. I request them not to try to do the impossible, as they could feel hurt by arguing with a logical thinker like me. But many start arguing with me, in spite of my requesting them not to do so, as my questions might make them extremely unhappy and unsure about their own beliefs and doubtful about their Christian faith. However, they feel compelled to leave in a great hurry in a very disturbed state of mind after hearing my arguments. After accusing me of wanting to remain ignorant, and insisting that I had not been blessed with the Grace of God like they were, they just vanish in a few minutes leaving me alone in peace. Even though they force me to debate with them, they feel horrified even by my simple questions!

Orthodox Christians believe that God had only ONE Son, Jesus Christ, who was sent down to the Earth from the Kingdom of Heaven to suffer and die on the cross for the salvation of mankind. According to the Christian dogma, God is the Father of only Jesus Christ and nobody else. If He could be the Father of other men, then Jesus would not be His only Son!

The Christians can never answer the most fundamental question as to why anyone should become a Christian when their God can never accept ALL men as His sons. If I can never become a son of God, why should I accept that person as the Father or, as the Christians say, God the Father ? I am still not sure whether even ALL women are accepted as His daughters by the Christian God. Jesus Christ is also supposedly considered by the orthodox Christians to be the only Child of God.

Can Christianity provide salvation even to the Christians when they can never become sons and daughters of their own God! As children of God they could theoretically become EQUAL to Jesus, which idea Christianity can never accept even as a vague possibility. Now what is the position of the Biblical prophets who came to this world before Jesus Christ, and whom the Christians accept and worship as their prophets? Can the Christians answer whether their prophets were the sons of their God or not?

Christians accuse the Hindus of idolatry or the worship of idols. Don't the Christians, especially the Roman Catholics who are in a majority among Christians, worship the idols of Jesus Christ, Mother Mary, and their prophets, apostles, martyrs, saints, angels and even the Holy GHOST! They also worship the Cross and other such symbols of the Christian faith.

Sincerely,
Ashok T. Jaisinghani.

Seeing as this guy had a lot of misconceptions about Christianity, I decided to try and clear them up:

Dear Mr. Ashok,

It's only recently that I saw the letter you sent to the editor of HVK. This mail is not an attempt to convert you to Christianity, but just to correct some misconceptions of Christianity that emerged in your mail (reproduced here in italics).
...

Orthodox Christians believe that God has only one BEGOTTEN son, Jesus. All of us are sons (and daughters!) of God; but Jesus is the only son "born" (in some sense) of God and not "created" like the rest of us. There's a difference. When you are "begotten" by someone, you are of the same nature as him (for instance, genes). In this case, it means that Jesus shares the Father's divinity. "Other" men, are also sons of God, but we do not share his divinity.

Same mistake again.

Ditto.

Wrong again. Catholics do NOT worship idols of Jesus, Mary, prophets (??), apostles martyrs etc. We do worship the Holy Ghost/Spirit - because the Holy Spirit is the third person of the Trinity (Father, Son, Spirit) that is God.

On the issue of Mary and the saints and angels, we certainly VENERATE (which is really nothing more than an advanced form of respect) them - but that is "infinitely" distant from the the WORSHIP due to God alone. The veneration shown to images and figurines of Mary and the saints is really of the same nature as that which one would show to the picture of one's deceased parents. And of course, we do NOT worship the cross!

I am sorry your experiences with your Christian friends have been less than pleasurable, and that they've not been able to handle your logic; however, I believe that much of the "beliefs" you think Christians have is not really possessed by them - as would be evident from my response to your mail.

Regards

Kensy

Now here's his reply:

Dear Kensy Joseph,

I thank you for your letter of October 28. Your assumptions are wrong and so your conclusions are also totally wrong. Most people of the world do not believe that Christ was divine.

Jesus Christ was not divine as he was a human being like all of us. Jesus Christ's mother, Mary, was not a virgin. She had a husband called Joseph, and she also had other children besides Jesus. How were those children born? If Joseph were not their father, were Jesus and other children of Mary illegitimate?

Catholics certainly DO worship idols of Jesus Christ, Mother Mary, and their prophets, apostles, martyrs, saints, angels and the Holy Ghost. Catholics believe in ghosts and superstitions! Not only do Catholics worship idols, they even believe that their idols can perform miracles. Most of the Protestants do not worship idols and are against the Catholics because of idol worship by Catholics and for many other reasons.

Both the Catholic and Protestant preachers wrongly propagate the belief that they can perform miracles to cure deadly diseases and prevent death among their followers, when the fact is that the Christian preachers cannot save even themselves from disease, suffering and death. The Catholic and Protestant preachers stage bogus shows for performing the so-called miracles to fool the common people of other communities for converting them to Christianity.

Even Jesus Christ did not perform any miracles. His very crucifixion proves that he was neither divine, nor could he perform miracles. There was also no resurrection of Jesus Christ after his crucifixion, as he was not divine. There are no historical proofs of his miracles or his resurrection after crucifixion.

Even your Pope and the other top Christians of the world cannot make me change my views about Christianity. So please don't lose your peace and sleep by trying to change my ideas about Christianity.

Sincerely,
Ashok T. Jaisinghani.

At first, I thought maybe I'd try again, but after seeing some of the "headlines" on the site of which he is editor of, I decided against it:

On this website, articles will be published regularly for the benefit of AIDS sufferers as well as medical scientists, biochemists and nutritionists interested in genuine research on AIDS which is based on facts and logical thinking.

I'm not even sure if this guy's to be taken seriously! What's more, I wonder how HVK can expect themselves to be taken seriously when they openly patronize such readers.
