Lethargic IITian
Musings of a 20-something lethargic IITian on India and Catholicism.

Lest one thinks that it's only the Right-wing that's been distorting history, here's an article from Rediff on the left-wing distortion of history in West Bengal:

Years ago, the Communists started rewriting history -- both Indian and world -- with what appears to the clear intention of furthering its political ideology through the school textbooks. And some five million students in the state-funded schools are today learning history from textbooks that have been heavily scrutinised, censored, and, claim critics, "calculatedly distorted" by the leftists.

Incidentally, the first article in the series dealt with the Rightist distortion:

Who killed Mahatma Gandhi?

Five years from now, few students of class 9 might know the answer -- because the new textbooks released by the National Council of Educational Research and Training mentions neither Gandhi's assassination nor the assassin, Nathuram Godse.
