For a state that takes its entrance exams very seriously, Kerala does not really succeed all too well at the national level. Take the JEE for instance - not many make it from Kerala. Why? Because there aren't enough coaching centres. Sometimes Kerala behaves like a closed community, not open to the competition outside.
